HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994 06_Fair Housing Month_1994.05.1714=1161MINKE61050 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL AS FAIR HOUSING MONTH AND IDENTIFYING ACTIVITIES TO FURTHER FAIR HOUSING. WHEREAS, in April of 1968 one of the Nation's most important pieces of civil rights legislation - Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 - was adopted by our Congress; and WHEREAS, Title VIII prohibits a wide range of discriminatory housing practices; and WHEREAS, cities receiving CDBG funds are uniquely situated to affect housing rights and opportunities; and WHEREAS, in affirmatively furthering fair housing, CDBG communities need to actively promote wider housing opportunities for all racial and ethnic groups while maintaining a nondiscriminatory environment in all aspects of the public and private housing market within their Jurisdiction. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OWASSO, OKLAHOMA, sitting in regular session, that the City of Owasso wholeheartedly proclaims April of each year as Fair Housing Month in Owasso, and further proclaims that the design and distribution of public brochures on Fair Housing Laws will be undertaken to alert citizens and private housing organizations to the City's commitment toward affirmatively furthering fair housing.
