HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015 25_Governor's Task Force (F-35s)_2015.12.15CITY OF OWASSO, OKLAHOMA RESOLUTION 2015 -25 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE GOVERNOR'S TASK FORCE IN RECOMMENDING THE TULSA BASE OF THE OKLAHOMA AIR NATIONAL GUARD AS THE PRIME LOCATION FOR THE NEW F -35 LIGHTNING II FIGHTER AIRCRAFT FLEET; ACKNOWLEDGING THE 138TH FIGHTER WING, LOCATED AT TULSA AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, AS ONE OF THE PREMIER COMBAT UNITS IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE; AND URGING THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE TO STATION THE NEXT GENERATION OF FIGHTER AIRCRAFT IN TULSA, OKLAHOMA WHEREAS, the United States Air Force is currently deliberating the location of the future F -35 "Lightning II" Fighter Wing; and, WHEREAS, the Tulsa 138th Fighter Wing of the Oklahoma Air National Guard is located on the north end of the Tulsa Regional Airport and is home to one of the nation's largest and most decorated fighter wings; a distinguished history in eleven overseas combat operations; pilot demographics well suited to new aircraft technology; a notable recruitment and retention rate; strategic access to special -use airspace and military training ranges; newly updated facilities, including a new aircraft apron, weather shelters, fuel storage, and ammunition storage; and, WHEREAS, since 1957 citizen airmen of the Oklahoma Air National Guard have served with honor, distinction, and effectiveness when called to duty by the State of Oklahoma or the United States of America and the 138th Fighter Wing enjoys broad support and a close relationship with the surrounding municipalities and civic leaders. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF OWASSO, OKLAHOMA, that the City of Owasso recommends the Tulsa 1381h Fighter Wing of the Oklahoma Air National Guard as the future home to the next generation of fighter aircraft, the F -35 "Lightning II," due to be deployed beginning in 2022, and that the City of Owasso supports the Governor of the State of Oklahoma and the designated task force in urging the United States Air Force to station its next generation of fighter aircraft at the Tulsa base of the Oklahoma Air National Guard. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of December, 2015 by the City Council of the City of Owasso, Oklahoma.
