ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR'S REPORT
August 5, 2004
Progress continues on the commercial sites in the 96th Street retail corridor. The Smith Farms
Marketplace development by Hunt Properties is currently being engineered and will begin
construction in August according to engineers. Engineering is currently taking place on Garnett
Road and 96th Street improvements to coincide with the opening of the Smith Farms Complex.
City of Owasso staff are meeting with utility representatives and engineers on relocating utility
lines in the area of 96th Street and Garnett. Several other properties along Garnett and 96th Street
are being considered for commercial development also. Two tracts in the area recently closed.
Both of these tracts have commercial uses planned. The Tyann Properties development around
Home Depot is taking shape as work continues on the service road connecting 86th Street and
96th Street on the east side of US 169. Construction continues on Waterford Place, a retail
development located between Walgreens and Home Depot at 96th Street and 129th. Work is
progressing very quickly on the Lanes at Coffee Creek bowling and recreational complex.
Work on updating our marketing material continues. We are currently updating the web page and
all the marketing material. The material will change in appearance and current figures of sales
and demographic data will be provided. The marketing material has been used quite effectively
over the last two years in our negotiations with various retailers. Many of you contributed to the
updated material and I appreciate your help.
Two groups continue discussions locally in regard to construction of a medical complex for the
City of Owasso. One group, Alliance Healthcare, is working with officials of the Larkin Bailey
Trust and the other group, the Haskell Enterprise Group, has 67 acres near the Owasso Market
under contract for a site for the hospital and medical complex. The addition of a modern medical
complex in our city is an essential proponent of our quality of life as our population increases
and commercial growth and development continues. Both groups have had recent media
exposure and further information will be forwarded to you as soon as it is received. I met with
representatives of the Haskell Development Group and other staff members at a neighborhood
meeting with citizens from Bailey Ranch Estates area to discuss the proposed medical campus
PUD last week.
As always, if I can serve you in any way, please call. Your input and direction are always
important to the success of our efforts.
