Jim Ablett and I took Iry on an Owasso area tour on Monday January 8th so he could make decisions about additional video filming and a text for the production. Mary Armstrong's family will probably be in the video and there will be a worship setting at First Baptist Church. A short version of the video should be finished in February in time for the Home and Garden Show but a longer version will be done later. As we discussed last month, we hope to pay for both videos with the proceeds from the spring breakfast. OWASSO BROCHURE Jim Ablett, Janice and I met with Terri Houdyshell on January 4th to discuss the printing of the segments of the brochure. Terri set the type for the brochure. The text of the five segments has been written but not printed. One colored heading sheets was delivered last Friday to the O.E.D.A.. With your approval, PSO will print the text on the heading sheets this month. The headings are: Education, Transportation, Energy, Recreation and Quality of Life. We will insert the material in the grey O.E.D.A. folder and mail them to about 100 targeted businesses at a time. OEDA Director's Report January 10, 1990 Page 2 LEADERSHIP OWASSO MEETING 10 The Leadership Owasso Steering Committee met on January 4, 196# to further discuss the program. We discussed the formation of four committees: Program, Selection, Finance and promotion. We are relying on Susan Young's experience with Leadership Tulsa, a similar program. Susan is a resident of the Owasso area but she has gone through the Tulsa program to help her in her work with the Northeast Oklahoma Solid Waste Management Authority. We plan to begin the Owasso program in September which will, like the other programs, instruct chosen Owasso people for leadership roles in many civic and private. The Leadership Owasso Steering Committee is presently comprised of Susan, Patricia Marlar, Lynn Freeman, Ron Cates, Rodney Ray, Jo Ellen Krantz, Jim Ablett, Janice Fields, and me. Our next meeting is on February 1st. MARKET CONSULTANT MEETING Greg Bonofiglio, Market Analyst from Retail Systems in Minneapolis Minnesota, met on December 15, 1989 to discuss population and demographics in Owasso concerning a business market study that he was doing in Owasso. He mentioned that he was also working INCOG on the same issues in Tulsa. We talked about two hours and he mentioned that he had rented a helicopter and done some aerial photography in the area. He declined to tell me what company had commissioned him to do the study. E.I.N. GRANT DEADLINE I received the City of Tulsa O.E.D.A. the afternoon of December 29th. I faxed to Department of Commerce to meet the January previously mailed the budget that you had 20th. We now have to solicit grants of the to be eligible for matching funds. C.E. TOOLING MEETING endorsement letter on letter to the Oklahoma first deadline. We had approved on December private sector donors Jack and Esther Cole of C.E. Tooling visited Owasso Monday January 8th to sign papers to purchase property at 8121 N. 116th East Avenue (east of the Johnson Furniture Building). After the signing of loan papers, Jim Ablett, Jack and I called local utility companies in a effort to turn on utilities. Between calls to the utility companies we had discussions about the sheet metal punch tooling business. Mr. Johnson said that his business was international with orders from Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and OEDA Director's Report January 10, 1990 Page 3 Europe. His home office is in Las Vegas Nevada and will remain there. He considered opening the branch shop in Pittsburgh but settled on Owasso, possibly since he has done business previously with other companies in Tulsa and Dallas. He said that property tax exemptions were a primary reason to open the shop in Oklahoma. NEW COMPUTER I have purchased a new computer from my personal funds to use in the O.E.D.A. The new computer will be able to use the latest software and at faster speeds than the old computer that now resides at my home. The new machine contains a modem to communicate with the Tulsa County database and others that we may use. I had- some difficulty in the installation of a hard disk drive, but that problem was solved with some patience and time. I did run up a somewhat high telephone bill in calling different consultants about the drive, however. I hope to use the computer in doing daily chores, CAD work and in the building of the database of area properties. CHAMBER BUSINESS Chamber Banquet Committee met again on December 27th to continue planning for the annual installation banquet. The Banquet will be at 7:00 on Thursday, January 18, 1990. The Trail Days Committee met on December 12th to continue its planning for the spring event, which is scheduled for May 3, 4 and 5. The Chamber Nominations Committee counted ballots on December 18th in the election of candidates for the Chamber Board. The membership elected Nellie Davis, Lynn VanDeventer, James Whitehead, and Michael Watson. Noble Sokolosky was elected by the Chamber Board on January 3rd after tie membership vote with Don Freed.
