HomeMy WebLinkAbout145_Special Election_CharterORDINANCE NO. 145 Be it ordained by the Board of Trustees of the Town of Owasso, Oklahoma: Section 1. A special election is hereby called to be held on July 18, 1972, in the Town of Owasso, Oklahoma® The Acting President of the Board of Trustees of the Town shall issue a proclamation calling said election and submitting to the qualified electors of the Town at said special election the question of ratifying the proposed Charter of the City of Owasso, Oklahoma, prepared by the Board of Freeholders and approved and proposed by the Board of Freeholders on -June 5, 1972, and returned to the Acting President of the Board of Trustees on June 5, 1972. The election shall be held in accordance with applicable provisions of the State Constitution and law relating to town elections. Section 2. The question to be submitted to the qualified electors of the Town of Owasso, Oklahoma, at said election, shall be substantially as follows: Shall the proposed Charter of the City of Owasso, Oklahoma, approved by the Board of Freeholders of the Town of Owasso, Oklahoma, on June 5, 1972, returned to the Acting President of the Board of Trustees of said town on June 5, 1972, and substantially published in the Owasso Reporter on June 8, June 15, and June 22, 1972, said Charter providing that, upon its going into effect, the Town of Owasso, Oklahoma, shall become a city under the name of the City of Owasso, Oklahoma, and providing a council-manager form of government for said proposed city, be ratified and approved as the organic law of the City of Owasso, Oklahoma, in accordance with the State Constitution and law? Section 2® If a majority of the qualified electors voting on the question of ratifying the proposed charter vote in the affirmative, the Charter shall be presented to the Governor for his approval. Section 44 For the immediate preservation of the peace, health and safety of the Town of Owasso,. Oklahoma, and of the inhabitants thereof, an emergency is hereby declared to exist by reason whereof this ordinance shall become operative and go into full effect imme- diately upon its passage and approval® Passed and approved June 5,, 1972.
