HomeMy WebLinkAbout289_Creating Department of Public SafetyCITY OF OWASSO, OKLAHOMA ORDINANCE NO 289 COUNTY CLERK AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLES 4 AND 5 OF CHAPTER REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PORTIONS THEREOF IN CONFLICT THEREWITH, CREATING A DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, SPECIFYING ITS PURPOSES, PROVIDING FOR A DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND SPECIFYING DUTIES, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE !T ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OW?- SSO, OKLAHOMA: That Articles 4 and 5, Chapter I of the Owasso City Code be amended as follows and repealing all ordinances in conflict therewith: Section 1-6(A): Department of Public Safety - Creation and Functions. There is hereby created a Department of Public Safety within the City of Owasso, Oklahoma. The function of the Department will be to provide police protection, fire pro- tection and emergency and ambulance services for the City of Owasso, Oklahoma. Section 1-6(B): Department of Public Safety Created: Position of Director of Public Safety - Duties. (a) it is the duty of the Director of Public Safety to supervise and control the Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Services and Ambulance Services, as hereinafter created. The Director of Public Safety shall be appointed and may be removed for any reason by the City Manager, (b) it is the duty of the Director of Public Safety to direct, coordinate and supervise the functions of the Police, Fire and all emergency services. The Chief of Police, the Fire Chief a nd the head of all emergency ser- vices now existing or hereafter created and the personnel under their control shall be subject to the authority of the Director of Public Safety.
