ORDINANCE NO. 313
AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 289, DIS-
SOLVING THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, REPEALING
SECTION 1 -6(A) and 1 -6(B) OF ARTICLE 4, CHAPTER
I, AND REESTABLISHING A POLICE DEPARTMENT AND FIRE
DEPARTMENT AMENDING ARTICLE 5, CHAPTER I, SECTION
1 -11(a) PROVIDING FOR AN AMBULANCE SERVICE TO BE
ADMINISTERED UNDER SUPERVISION OF THE FIRE CHIEF,
PROVIDING THAT THE FIRE CHIEF MUST HAVE AT LEAST
THREE (3) YEARS ACTUAL EXPERIENCE AS A PAID FIRE
FIGHTER AS PROVIDED BY TITLE 11, ORL. STATUTES
(OKLAHOMA MUNICIPAL CODE) §29 -102, REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OWASSO,
OKLAHOMA,
That Sections 1 -6(A) and 1 -6(B) of Article 4, Chapter
I, be and the same are hereby repealed, and that Section 1 -6
and Section 1 -7 of said Article 4 are hereby reaffirmed as
set out in the City Code.
Sec. 1 -11 of said Article 5, Chapter I, of the City
Code is hereby amended as follows:
Sec. 1 -11. Appointment of officers, accountability.
(a) The chief who must have had at least three
years actual experience as a paid fire fighter shall be
appointed by the city manager for the City of Owasso,
Oklahoma, for an indefinite period of time, and his tenure
of office shall depend upon his good conduct and efficiency.
The chief shall be technically qualified by training and
experience and shall have ability to command men and hold
their respect and confidence. He shall be removed only for
just cause. The fire chief shall have the right to a
hearing before the personnel board as provided in Article
8, Section 8 -4 of the City Code.
Sec. 1 -11 of said Article 5, Chapter I, of the City
Code is hereby amended by adding thereto Section 1- 11(j), as
follows:
Sec. 1- 11(j). The fire chief shall be the chief administra-
tive officer in charge of all emergency medical and ambu-
lance services.
All ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed.
That an emergency is hereby declared to exist for the
preservation of the public peace, health and safety, by
reason whereof this Ordinance shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage and approval.
PASSED and the emergency clause ruled upon separately
and approved this 3rd day of November, 1981.
